Have you seen the doctored photo of Dora the Explorer as an Illegal Immigrant? Her crime: illegal border crossing and resisting arrest. The photo shows Dora with a severely blackened eye, a bloody nose and lip and the reference numbers 666 666.

Celebrities’ Real Names

May 19th, 2010

Did you know that celebrites don’t always use their real names… What? You mean she’s not really Lady GaGa? OK. Everyone probably knew that Stefani Germanotta made that other name up (it’s inspired by the Queen song, if you really want to know.) But there are other, much less obvious examples of celebrities using stage names – and they might surprise you!

Wrestlers in Movies

May 18th, 2010

Wrestlers making movies is nothing new.  Most folks are well-acquainted with Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson’s successes on the big screen. And some will remember Hulk Hogan’s foray into film in the 1980s and 1990s. But the history of wrestlers on film is long and, not surprisingly, colourful.

La Bruschetta Italian Restaurant in Toronto

May 18th, 2010

La Bruschetta, a friendly, modest Italian restaurant neslted deep in Toronto’s Corso Italia is a favourite stop for hungry Hollywood celebrities.

If the picture of Ryan Gosling hugging La Bruschetta’s chef and hostess Silvia Piantoni doesn’t convince you, how about the one of Aidan Quinn doing dishes? Or maybe the Olsen twins as kids in leotards and skirts?

Visiting A-listers may strut in Toronto’s Yorkville but when they want to eat, they go west. To a family restaurant called La Bruschetta.

Celebrity Charities – Favourite Causes of Your Favourite Celebs

May 18th, 2010

Celebrity charity seems like an oxymoron if ever there was one.

If,  like writer Paul Theroux, you find few things more annoying than “ being hectored about African development by a wealthy Irish rock star in a cowboy hat”, (he’s referring, of course, to Bono in a New York Times article hilariously entitled “The Rock Star’s Burden”) you can blame Danny Kaye.

As UNICEF’s first Ambassador-at-Large, the beloved comedian arguably pioneered the role of celebrity spokesmouth back in 1954.  I’d give some credit to Bob Geldof too, for bringing celebrity giving into the spotlight with his Live Aid cause in the 1980s.

Cars the Stars Drive

May 13th, 2010

Ever wondered what cars your favourite stars drive? I’ll admit to being pleasantly surprised in more ways than one.  It’s cool that some of these bazillion-aire celebs would opt for a car that cost about as much as lunch at the Ivy, no?

Shia LaBeouf in Money Never Sleeps

May 6th, 2010

Shia LaBeouf insists he’s not Hollywood’s newest “It” boy.

This, despite co-starring with Michael Douglas in Money Never Sleeps, the second installment of the Wall Street film franchise. Despite being tapped by Steven Spielberg to co-star with Harrison Ford in his Indiana Jones flicks. Despite winning an Emmy for his breakout role in Disney TV’s Even Stevens.  And setting the junior blogosphere’s panties on fire with his quirky, boy-next-door sex-appeal.
